Luminaire Opens Showroom in LA Designed by Make Architecture

Now there are three—Luminaire showrooms that is. The newest, in Los Angeles, opened in late 2018 in the heart of West Hollywood’s design district and follows the 1974 launch in Miami and 1989 opening in Chicago. The , a corner site in a 1960s building, is immense: 21,000 square feet on two floors. Local studio designed the space, with Luminaire founders Nasir and Nargis Kassamali collaborating on the vision. Standout elements include the blackened steel stairway and pyramidal skylight capturing SoCal’s acclaimed sunlight.

Naturally, this latest endeavor presents the brands associated with the Luminaire name, , , , and among them. But the LA showroom also has unique offerings certain to pique local designers’ interest. , a collection by Brazilian architect Jader Almeida, melds maker and modernist sensibilities in a stunning range of chairs and tables with a bar cart and lighting fixtures in the mix, too. Also exclusive are kitchens, developed with the Italian manufacturer .

Bringing down the scale are a design library in partnership with , and objects ranging from decorative accessories to fashion pieces such as handbags and jewelry. As for why now, Nasir Kassamali pens a love note to the city: “Los Angeles is seeing a shift in the creative culture appealing to a broad range, architects, designers, and fashion personalities included.”
