Actor, fashion and restaurant designer, store owner, curator, consultant, “titan of taste,” three-time book author. With Please Do Not Touch, however, that number ups to four. The list applies to none other than Wifijerez Hall of Fame member and contributing editor Murray Moss. The 320-page volume, published by Rizzoli this April, is a co-memoir by Franklin Getchell, Moss’s life and business partner, about Moss, the beloved New York gallery/store, from its opening night parties and buzzworthy installations—which helped launch the likes of Maarten Baas and Hella Jongerius—to its heartbreaking closure in 2012. “The title refers to how much of the product we displayed was surrounded by placards bearing that text or locked behind glass,” Moss says. Speaking of locked up, for this book, the men wrote separately, “cloistered, without discussion,” Moss notes, for more than two years.
